Why SafeWork Coach

Health and safety has evolved from early industrial safety to modern WHS legislation, theories, models, and frameworks. Each adds value, but for many people and businesses, this has created complexity and confusion.

People and business need clear, easy to follow knowledge, to build reliable practice over time. That's the challenge and why SafeWork Coach exists.

We have the experience, skills, resources, and reach to turn complexity into clear, practical guidance. SafeWork Coach exists to provide the knowledge, actions, and tools people and business need to understand WHS, apply it confidently, and build capability that lasts.

Our Story

SafeWork Coach was created by Kitney, drawing on more than three decades of WHS consulting, leadership, and governance experience across Australia and internationally.

Over the years, we have seen challenges and wanted to respond to these.

We've seen people who care about health and safety but lack access to clear, practical guidance and experienced support. Businesses wanting to improve but unable to access or afford expertise. Future practitioners entering the workforce without the grounding they need.

SafeWork Coach was built to change that.

It captures knowledge, tools, and practical experience developed through years of consulting and makes them accessible, scalable, and sustainable for individuals, teams, and organisations.

In 2025, industry change and digital innovation converged, enabling the creation of SafeWork Coach, a dedicated WHS platform that captures experience and provides knowledge, tools and coaching for people and businesses regardless of location, size, and industry.

  1. SafeWork Coach

With the WHS industry shifting and digital options available, the opportunity to build a platform designed for people and business emerges. With strong services and systems in place, the focus moves from building Kitney to building capability for industry, and creating a way to capture and share knowledge of experienced WHS professionals.

  2. Recognition

Kitney Toolkit is recognised for innovation in digital WHS and governance solutions, signalling that its digital foundations are ready to support broader industry uplift. Global Tech Awards – Human Resources Technology (HRTech) and LearnX Awards – Best Learning & Talent Technology LMS Suite (Compliance Training).

  3. Risk Prediction

Kitney receives funding through WorkCover Queensland's Injury Risk Reduction Initiative (IRRI) for the Occupational Violence Risk Predictor and Strategy Tool, developed in collaboration with the QLD Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support, QLD Department of Education, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, and MS Queensland. This project laid the groundwork for the development of SafeWork Coach, to support WHS capability development for people and organisations. We are very grateful to the organisations involved in the project, for their insights and support.

  4. Training

Kitney Training launches, helping people use SharePoint and Microsoft 365 for WHS and business management. Kitney knows technology only delivers value when people know how to use it well.

  5. Digital Systems

Kitney Toolkit launches, an industry-first M365-based WHS and business management system. A dedicated tech team forms, enabling scalable digital solutions and confirming that systems remove barriers, but people still need guidance and capability.

  6. Technology Shift

The introduction of "Kitney BERTHA" marks the early move toward digital WHS management and highlights that traditional approaches can't solve long-standing challenges.

  7. Exploration

The Kitney team begins exploring Microsoft 365 for WHS management, driven by a recurring insight from consulting: Businesses want to do WHS well, but lack time, clarity, and resources.

  8. Consulting

Kitney Consulting is established, delivering WHS, quality, risk, and governance services across industries. Across clients, pattern appears: WHS matters, people care, but they lack knowledge, resources, or time. These insights later shape SafeWork Coach.

  9. Leadership

Senior WHS roles for Jo Kitney across local government and industry associations reveal a consistent theme: People needs tools, guidance, and support to understand and take action for WHS.

  10. Australia & Advancement

Jo Kitney moves to Australia and completes a Masters in OHS at QUT, bringing UK experience into the Australian context and deepening understanding of WHS across different environments.

  11. Entrepreneurship

Jo Kitney establishes an occupational health consultancy in the UK, gaining insight into WHS challenges across manufacturing, defence, legal, and education sectors.

  12. Foundations

Jo Kitney channels her nursing background and begins her first occupational health role at City University, London, starting a career focused on improving health, safety, and organisational outcomes.

Our Future

By 2030, the WHS industry will look very different. More digital, more connected, and increasingly supported by AI. Technology will take care of more of the routine work, leaving people to focus on capability, leadership, and making WHS happen.

With strong services established through Kitney and the growth of digital WHS solutions, the next decade is about people and business: building confidence, strengthening skills, and making good WHS knowledge accessible to everyone.

For SafeWork Coach, Our focus will be on building capability and we will explore using AI to help personalise learning, surface insights, and support better decision-making, with people and business at the centre.

SafeWork Coach will provide a way for experienced WHS professionals to share what they know, and for emerging practitioners and businesses to learn in a practical, supported way. The future is about lifting capability across the industry, and SafeWork Coach is designed to help lead that change.
